World Boxing Council featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. will defend his crown against undefeated Mongolian fighter Tugstsogt “King Tug” Nyambayar on Saturday, February 8 live on SHOWTIME from the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, leading an event of Premier Boxing Champions.
Gary (30-1, 18 KOs) is making the fifth defense of his title against the 2012 Olympic Silver medalist “King Tug,” who quickly climbed the rankings by defeating quality rivals in his 11 professional fights. Nyambayar, 27 (11-0, 9 KOs) represented Mongolia at the 2012 Olympic Games, but now lives in the United States. Nyambayar rose in the featherweight pro rankings with victories over the then undefeated Harmonito Dela Torre and former interim champion Oscar Escandón. Most recently he won a WBC eliminator by defeating former world champion Claudio Marrero. “King Tug” has commented he is very motivated to have the opportunity to conquer the green and gold title
